Your Anti Cellulite Diet – Choosing Foods That Work For You
An anti cellulite diet is not focused on simply reducing your body weight. After all, not everyone suffering from cellulite is overweight. Rather, it involves other factors like regulating the way your cells feed and nourish themselves and giving your skin what it needs to retain its supple, youthful glow.
Building Collagen
A diet aimed at reducing cellulite is primarily aimed at building collagen in your body rather than just slimming you down. Collagen works by building up the middle layer of your connective tissue and strengthening the cellular membrane. The idea here is to stop your cellulite from pushing itself towards the skin's surface.
Here's what to look for in your food and supplements:
- Vitamin B
- Amino acids from nuts, beans, and seeds
- Trace minerals
Proper Hydration
Another principle of a cellulite-busting diet focuses on water absorption. So you'll want to choose foods that allow your cells and your skin to efficiently re-hydrate.
Include the following in your food and supplements:
- Lecithin – this is what makes up your cell membrane and it can help you attract, absorb, and retain water, as your cells need it (try spinach and tomatoes)
- Essential fatty acids – also known as EFAs, these attract and re-hydrate your connective tissue (canola oil and ground flax are good sources)
Feed Your Skin
While proper hydration is critical, you don't want too much water retention. Therefore, an anti cellulite diet also includes nutrients to regulate the amount of fluids you retain, reducing inflammation of your cell tissue, and enhancing blood circulation.
What to look for in your food and supplements:
- Amino acids, antioxidants, polyphenols (grapefruit, oranges, pomegranates, berries and citrus fruits in general)
- Essential fatty acids (olive oil, raw nuts, and flaxseed)
- Lecithin (eggs, peanut butter, cauliflower, and soybean products)
What to Eat & What to Avoid
Fruits and veggies are great for an anti cellulite diet and they're important for overall health as well. They contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties for cellular and skin protection.
What's more, raw produce contains structured water, which your cells absorb faster and better compared to water from the tap or even bottled mineral water. So in addition to drinking a glass of water when you become thirsty, have a slice of pineapple as well to fight cellulite.
Remember, you can eat all these healthy foods and take supplements as well, but if you're still eating fried foods and such, you'll be fighting a losing battle with cellulite. French fries, hamburgers, and deep fried chicken are not only high in animal fat (which comes with its own share of problems) they also cause inflammation. Inflammation leads to cell damage and unsightly, stubborn cellulite.
